Courage

One theme in this book is courage. Julilly and I know we need to find the courage to face difficulties along our journey. We have dealt with losing Lester and Adam to the slave traders, which was unbelievably upsetting. We have had times where there was no food, which was extremely hard. My daddy had to have the courage to become a Baptist, even though he was a slave. Julilly and I pray to God every night to find the courage to continue our jorney to Canada.

Kindness

One of the themes in this book is Kindness. Altough there are cruel, nasty slave traders, there are kind, helpful abolitionists like Mr. Ross.He helped Junlilly, Lester, Adam and I escape to Tennessee. Then, an abolitionist who was friends with Mr. Ross gave us directions to Canada. Also a gracious mennonite farmer and His wife washed our clothes and gave us a food bundle. I know, with the help of people like them, we will make it to Canada.
